I was privileged to be invited to Gaza alongside Jenny Higgins and Henrik Gard to document training at the Gaza Circus School.

I was struck by Gaza’s beauty and dignity - there were so many scenes that were far from the visceral, war-torn images we so often see. In taking these, I didn’t want to shy away or sugar coat the conflict, but rather, highlight this city’s beauty, and what its people want to save.

The project as a whole was about the importance of joy and fun and frivolity, how central that is to the human experience, and how cherished it should be.
